HISTORY OF THE LEAGUE:
The Orange County Jewish Softball League was formed in 1980, and was initially known as the Southwest Council B'nai B'rith Softball League.  It was then comprised of teams from B'nai B'rith Lodges in Long Beach and Orange County.

The League's composition changed through the years by the closing of many B'nai B'rith Lodges, and synagogues within the same geographic area taking those teams' representative places.  The League continued under the same name, though operating independently of B'nai B'rith or any organizational influence.

The League operated in this fashion for almost twenty years, until 1997, when it affiliated with the Orange County Jewish Community Center, then in Costa Mesa.  The idea was to give the very limited programming available at the JCC more visibility, while continuing to serve the needs of Orange County Jewish adults.  It was then known as the JCC Softball League.

In 2003, by totally disassociating itself from the JCC out of necessity, the League again became independent.  That move helped the League even better serve the Orange County Jewish Community.  It is currently comprised of eleven synagogue and unaffiliated Jewish teams, with between 150 and 200 Jewish men and women participating.

Jewish organizations interested in entering a team in the League, Jewish men and women interested in forming a team, or desiring to play for an existing team, are encouraged to contact the League President, Michael Deems.
